If you enjoy our work and want to say thanks, donations to the site are very welcome. This firmware update included virtual 4K picture support (for console inputs primarily where it is then scaled down to 1440p) and improved picture quality according to the Samsung website change-log. The 27″ model we tested in August 2020 was very impressive, lets see if the 31.5″ model is just as good.įor reference we are testing the FB02 version of the screen and have updated to the latest UK/US official firmware v1007.1 from Sept 4th 2020. Samsung have now released their new Odyssey line-up of screens, boasting high 240Hz refresh rates in a range of sizes and with some impressive additional specs. That first venture in to 240Hz VA was also limited to a 1080p panel and it appeared that this technology was not ready for the jump to 240Hz, and may never be. To be honest we were not impressed by the performance as the response times were not nearly fast enough to keep up with the extra frame rate and it was plagued by usual response time limitations on black transitions, resulting in the normal VA black smearing problems. We reviewed the first to market in the form of the Samsung C27RG50 back in May 2020. when describing the aesthetics) where we can shamelessly re-use what we said in the 27″ G7 review.įor high refresh rate gaming, VA panels were a little bit later than other technologies when it came to offer 240Hz support. Obviously we will refresh all our tests, results and commentary where necessary but there are some sections that will be the same (e.g. We will apologise in advance for some text being the same as the 27″ model in places. It will be interesting to see if the performance is comparable. Spec and feature wise this is basically just a larger version of the 27″ model, with the same 2560 x 1440 resolution, the same 240Hz refresh rate and other key features like the 1000R curvature, adaptive-sync and HDR 600. We have with us now the larger, but very similar 32″ (well, technically its 31.5″ in size) C32G75T model for review. It marked a turning point for VA panel technology in terms of response times, refresh rate and gaming performance. I'd still try again though if you want to, I wouldn't say it's excessive yet.In August we took a detailed look at the new 27″ sized Odyssey G7 display from Samsung which impressed us a lot. I'd probably feel worse if it was a random regional retailer and they'd probably be more likely to reject the replacement/return. Main problem was having to use my old monitor while I waited for a replacement and the stress of the whole process/ordeal. Haven't used it much for leisure yet though despite the 28-day return window being over, I do hope another random issue doesn't crop up.īut I was dealing with SAMSUNG directly and the returns were pretty painless (no complaints from the staff, and always a courier collection to my house) compared to how it could have been. It's unique and I wouldn't be surprised if we never see a monitor this curved again (with better specs at least). I probably would have stopped returning these monitors earlier myself and settled for a refund but I like it: I like the curve, the contrast, the response times and the monitor and therefore I persisted with the lottery. ![]() I suppose the question you should ask yourself is: can you notice the dead pixel normally and does it annoy you?Ĭlick to expand. Not sure, I'd just try again if the dead pixel is a problem. ![]() My plan is to never establish it's there in the first place. One of the panels I tried had a collection of 5 dead pixels which was quite noticeable, but I don't think I could notice a singular dead pixel (at least on a 27 inch) from a normal viewing distance. Ultimately it was too stressful to keep going over the entire panel with my nose against the screen checking for dead pixels, I elected to stop that as it was feeding my obsessiveness. I should have near perfect vision when wearing glasses and I haven't noticed any dead pixels when sitting at a normal distance or doing normal activities. I also forgot to mention that prior to this last batch of G7s, the appearance of text was very blurry and practically-necessitated cleartype to be enabled, this newest batch not so much. ![]() I realised that the aforementioned factors are equally or if not more important than a singular dead pixel, since it pervades into general usage of the screen whereas a singular dead pixel doesn't normally. Click to expand.I finally started lowering my standards and got bored of returning them and am fairly happy with this last one I settled on (from the perspective of blacklight bleed, text clarity and colours).
